New Event Application: Golden Beverage Tasting & Chili Cook-Off

• The Golden Welcome Center, through Lora Knowlton, presented a new event application for a single-day event on Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 1-4 p.m. in Parfet Park, with estimated attendance of 2,000 and admission by advance tickets.
• The proposed budget projected $73,500 in income and $53,710 in expenses, for a net of $19,790. The applicant stated they were not requesting funding from this committee at this time.
• Knowlton described plans for 25+ beverage brands, about 4-5 food vendors, live entertainment, a silent auction through Coors benefiting St. Jude, security, and a requested closure of the Parfet Park east parking lot on Jackson Street between 10th and Water Street.
• She said chili cooks would be recruited early; individuals prepare 10 gallons cooked on site, restaurants prepare 12 gallons, and pre-made chili or spice packets are not allowed. In 2024 the event had roughly 15-18 chili cooks and Coors brought 32 brands.
• Committee members expressed support, noting the event is a lot of work for the good of the community and appreciated the detailed logistics. A motion to approve the event enthusiastically was seconded and passed unanimously.

Grant Applications

• Golden Lions Club – 4th of July Festival: The Lions Club requested $5,000 toward porta-potties and sinks ($4,800) and security ($2,000) for the free, family-friendly July 4 festival at Lions Park. Attendance was estimated at 9,000, and the event has been held for over 50 years. The 2025 special event evaluation was in the green overall, though inclusivity and accountability were low-scoring; members noted the club added six handicapped parking spaces and provides shuttles. The club's 2026 budget showed a projected net income of $1,270. The committee discussed the removal of city-funded fireworks and confirmed attendance remains strong. A motion to approve the $5,000 grant was seconded and passed unanimously.
• Golden Bike Cruise – Grant Resubmission: The Golden Community Commons resubmitted a request for $5,000 to support live bands ($3,000 total, $600 per event), Golden Police Department support ($1,600 total, $320 per event), and graphic design/printing ($400) for five monthly cruises from May through September. The event is free and open to the public, with attendance of 250-300. Members noted police presence on the route is required and has made a significant difference.
