3:37

Yeah,

Speaker 1

3:39

you don't want to just

Unassigned speaker

3:41

forward.

Speaker 1

3:48

I think they're a little boys in the he goes to

Unassigned speaker

3:53

it.

Speaker 1

3:57

Okay,

Speaker 2

3:57

get ready.

Unassigned speaker

4:14

Oh,

Speaker 2

4:15

you print it, John.

Unassigned speaker

4:16

I

Speaker 2

4:16

just print it.

4:17

Um public comment.

4:24

All right, we're gonna move into approving the September twenty-six meeting minutes.

4:28

You should have all seen them in your packet into somebody who wants to make a motion.

Speaker 3

5:00

I've stopped doing it.

5:01

I should have asked.

5:02

Would you all want me to have them printed?

Unassigned speaker

5:04

We

Speaker 4

5:04

can pull more bong.

5:05

No, thank you.

5:06

Yeah,

Speaker 1

5:06

we're going to think they're save big things.

Speaker 3

5:09

Yeah.

5:11

So this comes from DVA.

5:16

This is everything that we did.

5:17

It started late August and ran clearly the beginning part of September.

5:20

If you remember, this is when we had voted to put out some summer stewardship messaging as a result of what was happening along the creek and heavy visitation in the end of frankly all summer, but DVA wasn't signed on until the back end.

5:34

So just some numbers here so you can see exactly what was going on and how this was all enacted.

5:44

So you can see just some numbers to our meta campaign, paid search.

5:49

This would be uh Google display and things like that.

5:51

The datify display, um, just so you know what's going to be happening over the course, frankly, of our relationship with DVA and likely beyond unless anything changes, is that we have our meta, which is Facebook and Instagram, we have our paid search, um, which is Google display mostly, and then DataFi.

6:07

That's the uh visitor profiling service that we use.

6:10

They have their own media buying platform, which we put some funding towards, which basically goes to any sort of um website that is uh based on demographics.

6:23

So for example, in Denver, it would be on like Nine News or Denver 7, or frankly, even like the ESPN, any website that has the ability to show this type of unique uh targeted marketing is what DataFi uses.

6:40

And I'd sp I can give you all the list of websites that Datafy uses.

6:45

It's extremely long and is across the board of like every possible type of website you could imagine.

6:51

But I know that we've gotten some questions in the past about where DataFi's display are showing, and that is kind of the high level answer.

7:00

Um this is our English ad that we're out.

7:03

Um you can see there, press ends reach, um, the cost spending.

Unassigned speaker

7:08

Um

Speaker 3

7:08

so all the numbers are really good.

7:10

And stop me here, I'm gonna go through this pretty quick.

7:12

Um, maybe I'm looking at you as kind of the digital marketing guru.

7:15

If you have any questions for the group, please bring them up.

7:19

Um we also did it in Spanish as well.

7:23

This was a big ticket item in the

Unassigned speaker

7:25

uh

Speaker 3

7:26

strategic plan, as well as frankly what we heard around the community.

7:29

There was many, many people that uh had it English as their second language that were here this summer, so we wanted to make sure we were marketing to that group as well.

7:38

Um search campaigns, again, this would be our uh programmatic digital, so mostly on the Google side of things.

7:44

Um the top search terms, that's an interesting one.

7:46

I think it's one to stop and call out looking at particularly.

7:50

These are the terms that we had used, the top search terms that brought up these ads.

7:56

So, for example, if you wanted to learn about how to go tubing in golden, despite us not doing anything with marketing that word or really trying to bring people in on that, we want to make sure if somebody's searching that term, this is the messaging that they're seeing.

8:09

Rather than you know, come here, here's where to rent the tube, it's here's what to do to be responsible when you do come.

8:16

So again, even if people aren't clicking here, they're seeing it right out of the gate that this is the message that we're trying to promote.

Unassigned speaker

8:25

Um

Speaker 3

8:25

and again, that those uh the data by one, that's right, saying where they're kind of all over the the place as far as where they are being displayed.

8:32

Um, but the don't litter one was the top, which is pretty neat.

Unassigned speaker

Summary of Proceedings

Community Marketing Board Meeting - October 27, 2026

The board reviewed the summer stewardship campaign results, discussed Q3 PR transition, finalized plans for the November/December shop local campaign and KOSI Christmas Kick-Off, and debated the future of the visitor guide. A $32,000 Colorado Tourism Office grant was announced for next year's stewardship campaign.

Summer Stewardship Campaign Review

  • The Meta campaign reached 107,483 people, with an ad recall lift of 4,610 people (4.5% recall rate).
  • Paid search generated 143,828 impressions with a 3.03% click-through rate and $0.48 cost-per-click.
  • Datafy display served 396,625 impressions, achieving a 0.61% CTR (well above the 0.12-0.18% benchmark).
  • Spanish-language ads reached 29,470 people with 75,341 impressions.
  • The board noted the campaign ran late in the season, making it difficult to measure direct impact on visitor behavior.
  • Derek Schimmel announced a $32,000 grant from the Colorado Tourism Office (2:1 match) for the 2027 summer stewardship campaign, enabling a total $48,000 campaign ($16,000 from Visit Golden).

Q3 Public Relations Review

  • Joy, the PR consultant, decided not to renew her contract for 2027 due to reduced scope and budget (from $72,000 to $24,000).
  • The board expressed regret and discussed honoring Joy at the next Goldens in Golden event.
  • Three bids will be sought for a new PR agency (DVA, BPR, and a firm based in Evergreen/Edwards).
  • Joy's final project is a media kit for Visit Golden's website.

November/December Shop Local Campaign & KOSI Christmas Kick-Off

  • The campaign will soft-launch November 2, featuring a billboard on I-70 and Kipling ("Golden: Your Hallmark Movie Come to Life").
  • KOSI 101's Christmas music flip event is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 4:00-6:00 PM at the Golden Hotel, with a vendor village for local businesses.
  • Board members debated whether to hold the next "Golden After Hours" (rebranded Mashup) on Small Business Saturday (November 28) or tie it to the KOSI event. Concerns were raised about the week before Thanksgiving being slow; some preferred Small Business Saturday.
  • A retail passport/treasure hunt concept was discussed to encourage shopping without burdening businesses.
  • The board did not reach a final decision on the timing of the next after-hours event.

2027 Work Plan Discussion

  • The work plan will align with the strategic plan's roadmap; the board will present it to City Council in February/March 2027.
  • Members suggested quarterly reviews of the strategic plan to track progress.
  • The 2027 budget is expected to be approved by City Council on December 13, 2026.

Visitor Guide Discussion

  • The Welcome Center is producing its own guide independently (funded through advertising), separate from Visit Golden's guide.
  • Visit Golden's guide will be non-pay-to-play, featuring an inspirational directory of tourism-facing businesses.
  • The board discussed eliminating print in favor of a digital interactive map/directory, but recognized that many visitors still request physical copies.
  • Due to surplus 2026 guides and an upcoming brand reimagining in early 2027, the board agreed to delay printing a new guide until summer 2027 and use existing stock through Q1.
  • A digital directory and interactive map will be prioritized; examples will be brought to a future meeting.

Key Outcomes

  • The September 2026 meeting minutes were approved (no formal motion noted in transcript).
  • The summer stewardship campaign metrics were accepted; the $32,000 grant will be pursued.
  • PR procurement will proceed with three bids; Joy's departure is effective end of 2026.
  • The November/December campaign will launch November 2; the KOSI event on November 21 will include a vendor village; the after-hours event date remains undecided.
  • Visitor guide printing is on hold until after brand reimagining; digital solutions will be explored.
  • The 2027 work plan will be refined in January 2027, reviewed quarterly.
