The Affordable Housing Trust (AHT) held a meeting on January 22, 2026, to prepare for an upcoming presentation to the Select Board on February 9, 2026. The discussion focused on the Prosperity Way housing project, the trust's contractual relationship with Habitat for Humanity, and the scope of the trust's role in oversight and accountability. Members emphasized the need to stay within their purview and not speak on behalf of town staff or Habitat.
Yes. There we go. Um so I thought we could use this meeting to just kind of coordinate what needs to be done. And then if anything needs us to put our heads together to do that. Um and part of the conversation I've been having with the different people I've been talking to is I do think that um we need to be, and Fred, you and I have talked about this. We need to be really clear about what is the trust's role and what isn't. So for example, when there's questions about the role of town council in the project, like the trust's role with that is as simple as like occasionally the trust on a project has made a specific request for review of something by town council. We did that we did not do that in this case. So beyond that, we can't say anything because the relationship with town council is not really our purview. Does that make sense to you all? I would like it to be mine, but it hasn't been. I've tried. Only only as a voter. Um, Fred, for some reason I can't hear you. I can see that you're talking and it doesn't look like you're muted. Um can you hear me now? Yes, we can. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Okay. I I have a new uh microphone. I think I turned that off. Um which issue are you talking about. You said like town council, for instance. Yeah, so I'm saying in presenting on um Prosperity Way. Well, we had no like there's occasionally on other projects, the trust has initiated a request that the town council review something. We have not we name we made no special requests, and whatever role town council had would have been whatever role town council always like always has when staff are working on contracts. Well, I think that there's a couple of things. Uh first off, let's figure out what we're doing with this meeting. And as I understand it, it's a preparation for our select board yes update uh there. And I think that you were very wise when you talked about not responding directly to questions that we have no uh issue with that they're more uh have to do with staffing and staff um responses of of those sorts of things. Um and I don't think that they're going to put us in that situation of having to respond to those things. So I I also this afternoon did a PowerPoint, a quick PowerPoint that showed an update, and I don't know if you want to use that or not. So I only said it about an hour ago. I I um I I actually like the PowerPoint. Uh I thought I if this is going to be the sort of the talking points memorandum for the presentation to the select board, I think this is a really good uh start. There might be we need I thought we might discuss how to, you know, if there are amendments, but um so but but before we get there, I I think I understand what you've said, Ananda, which is uh the select board wants to meet with the truth with the trust to understand the programs that are going on generally, and in particular a an update to the extent we can um with respect to the the new housing construction. Do I have that right? Yeah, so um when talking to Liz, um yes, this is like the first of what it sounded like they're gonna do a series of getting updates from boards and committees, and they would like us they there are some specific updates they would like related to prosperity way. Um
