The Greenbelt City Council held a special meeting on September 2, 2026, primarily to enter executive session. Prior to the closed session, council members shared updates on the upcoming Labor Day Festival and recent vandalism in the Greenbelt Station neighborhood.

Discussion Items

  • Labor Day Festival Update: City Manager Samaron reported that fire and health inspections are scheduled for Friday morning, with a joint inspection by the county and city. The city's fire marshal, Gilberto Cabrera, will take on a greater role in inspections. Structural inspections for festival equipment are taking place Thursday and Friday. The Labor Day Festival is the 90th anniversary, and the city is assisting the Labor Day committee to ensure a safe event.
  • Greenbelt Station Vandalism Update: Council member (not named directly) thanked the city manager, Chief Bowers, and Deputy Chief White for attending a meeting with residents on Monday. A trailer camera has been set up in central park near a vandalized house, and police patrols have increased. The suspect has been arrested twice; the first time released without bond, the second time held on a $2,500 bond, later posted by a relative. Residents were reminded to share any additional camera footage for the upcoming court hearing.
