Alameda to introduce the candidate for the Hamakua CDP Action Committee.

Good morning, Council members here in East Hawai'i.

Good morning, Council members in West Lawaii and Mahalo Acting Chair, Houstis.

My name is Micah Alameda, Executive Assistant, Office of the Mayor, and it is my honor to present to you communication 616, nominating Maile LaVea Maloy to the Hamakua Community Development Plan Action Committee.

If confirmed, Ms.

Lavea Maloy will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2027.

I've had the pleasure to get to know Ms.

Lavoy through this vetting process.

She's a native Hawaiian born in Anchorage, Alaska, a place where her grandparents, uh, Ilona Shillingworth and Kamuela Kini helped charter the first ever Hawaiian civic club in Alaska called Nakeiki Oh Hawaii, which um she is still a proud member of today.

Uh she is a hardworking wife and a proud mother of five.

She has three daughters, two sons.

Um while raising her Keiki through the Kula Kayapuni system or the Hawaiian immersion system, uh, she was also putting herself through school, where she earned an associate's degree from Hawai'i Community College and two bachelors in administration of justice and political science from the University of Hawaiiat Hilo.

Ms.

Lavea Maloi has a strong record of service.

Um I actually met her back on Oahu several years ago.

I don't know if she remembers this, but it was um while she was in the AmeriCorps program, and AmeriCorps is it's a national federal uh agency with a purpose of service, yeah, volunteerism in the areas of education, um, environmental stewardship and disaster response.

Um, and that is where I met her years ago.

I think it was 2018.

Um, but since then, right?

Her record of service is only elevated.

Uh, she is a strong member of the association of Hawaiian civic clubs and Hui Alohaina.

Um we believe Ms.

Lavella Maloy will add immediate impact to the Hamakua Community Development Plan Action Committee, and we look fave uh we look forward to a favorable confirmation.

I um I'm deeply humbled and um grateful to both American Alameda as well as my brother Micah.

Um yes, I do remember better, and thank you so much for your leadership at that.

Back in 2018, I had just graduated from each hilo um and was looking to serve, which I did be in America for nearly three years.
