My name is Anthony Makana Paris, and I speak on behalf of the Makokilo Capole Hunokai Holland neighborhood board in strong support of resolution 2607.

I grew up beneath Puehaleaka law, now overshadowed by Malna Opala, a one storied area of our ancestor Maui who lasted the sun to draw his mama's kappa during the summer months.

Now we continually see dust, ash, and foul smells coming down into our neighborhoods.

I've lived with respiratory and other chronic illness since childhood, and too many neighbors have died linked from illnesses linked to nearby landfills.

Landfills emit pollutants tied to hospitalization, cancers, lost work, and school days and economic harm.

The burden falls hardest on the working class in native point communities in West Oahu.

And our board has long called for host compensation, stronger diversion, and local green jobs.

So to end, I ask this question.

What happens when a KK says why do we have lift?

Why do we have to live next to a landfill?

I want us all to be able to look them in the eye and say, we saw the harm, we fought for you, and we did everything in our power so the next generation won't have to endure it.

Um Chair, I I fully support this and I'm personally interested in this uh resolution and uh its intent.

I would like to recommend that instead of uh one designee for the city council that it be rephrased to say up to members.

So right now it says the council chair or the chair's designee who shall serve as the chair of the task force unless otherwise designated by the council.

I I I'd like to be able to have at least two members.
