The City Council's honorary certificate program honors and acknowledges those individuals and groups who have made an impact in our local, national, and international communities.

Our first presentation recognizes the Pearl City High School Air Rifley Team for their individual and team successes during the 2025-2026 season.

Good morning, Chair and Aloha, everyone.

I have the pleasure this morning of introducing the 2025-2026 Pearl City High School Lady Charger Air Rifle Reme.

Air Riflery has been has teams competing using sporter air rifles in three positions.

And this morning I am so honored to have with us members of the team.

And when you hear your name, please raise your hand.

And their team assistant Shereen Arenaido, who's also not here, and Shereen and I go back.

We actually used to be teachers at um Highlands Intermediate together.

The Pearl City Chargers capture their fourth consecutive OIA Girls Air Air Rifle Rampionship on Saturday, October 25th, 2025 at Kaiser High School.

Chloe and the team were this year's number one, two, four, five, and eight individual best rifle reshooters on Oahu, with Chloe number one, Jenna number two, and I think Regan um Sarah and Regan and Callie were also on there in that order.

Extending their success on November 24th, 2025, the Pearl City Girls Air Rifle Rete came in second at the Hawaii Army National Guard Air Riflery HHSAA State Championship at the Blazell Center.

Just as recent as three weeks ago on June 18th through the 20th through the 20th, 2026, at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center in Port Clinton, Ohio, the Pearl City Girls Rifle Ray Team plays third overall out of 45 teams nationally in the three-position sporter category with an aggregate team score of 4,306.

Over the two-day tournament, team members, Jenna, Chloe, Callie, and Raina individually placed nationally, 15th, 25th, 33rd, and 84th, respectively, out of 151 individuals.

Now therefore, be it resolved on behalf of the people of the city and county of Honolulu that the City Council is proud to honor and celebrate the Pearl City Charger Air Rifle team and their coaches Lester and Leland for once again leading the storied Pearl City Chargers team to historic heights.

And be it further resolved, the council wishes to also recognize senior team captain Jenna Liang and Chloe for their outstanding performances over these last four years.

On May 25th, Pearl City High School Lady Charger, Chloe was announced as the newest inductee to the 2026 HHSAA Hall of Honor.

The council wishes the team all the best and looks forward to any future successes you may have during the upcoming school year season or next steps as you make your way to college, especially Chloe.

Our next presentation recognizes Matsumoto Sheaweiss on the occasion of their 75th anniversary.

This presentation is made by Councilmember Wire.

It's my uh privilege and honor to welcome Matsumoto She Vice to the chamber today.

We're joined today by Stanley Matsumoto, who I also want to wish a belated happy birthday.

Um think it was just last week you said, yeah.

Um, owner and president, of course, and then uh Noriko Matsumoto, Vice President and Stan's wife, and Rumi Matsumoto, General Manager, Stan Enrico's daughter.

Can we get a round of applause for them?

When people think of Oahu's North Shore, they often pitch picture our world-renowned beaches, breathtaking landscapes, or a trip through historic Haleiva town.

For many Kama and visitors, no trip to Haleiva is complete without a stop at Matsumoto Shevais.

What began as a humble family business has become one of Hawaii's most recognizable landmarks.

But beyond the iconic, sweet treat and long lines of excited customers is a story story of perseverance, hard work, and the strength of Wano Hana.

On February thirteenth, nineteen fifty-one, Mamoru and Helen Momoyo Matsumoto opened in Matsumoto Store Inc.

in Haleiva.

Before fulfilling his dream of owning a business, Mamoru worked on sugar plantations and the railroad, attended night school to learn English and math, and worked as a salesman, all while building a better future for his family.

In nineteen fifty-six, inspired by the centuries-old Japanese tradition of Kakigori, the Matsumoros began serving Shevais with homemade syrups and sweet Azuki beans for just five cents a cone.

What started as a simple addition to their neighborhood grocery store quickly became a cherished cherished tradition.

Through word of mouth and generations of loyal customers, Matsumoto Shevice grew into an internationally recognized destination, welcoming visitors from across Hawaii, the United States, Japan, and around the world.

In 1976, Stanley, the youngest of three children, assumed stewardship of the family business.

And together with his wife and their daughter, they have continued to grow the business while preserving the values and traditions established by the first generation.

Today, they offer more than 40 signature syrup flavors in that line of iconic apparel while remaining true to your roots as a single location, family-owned and operated business rooted in the community.

For 75 years, Matsumoto Shevice has been more than just a place to enjoy a sweet treat.

It is a testament to what a family in a dream can achieve across generations.

Anyone who has visited Matsumoto Shave Ice knows that no matter how long the line may be, which it is very efficient, I've noticed, so you actually move pretty quickly.
