1:10

They lost the donors for the ice cream and also for the waste products.

1:16

So they're in need of extra donations.

1:21

And also there'll be a lot of different musical people there, but the um Western Reserve community band will be playing it from seven to eight o'clock.

1:33

I'm a member of that, and there'll be a lot of patriotic songs and it'll be fun.

1:38

And then the second thing that Mrs.

1:40

Sutton had sent us a notice about, there's going to be a play that's put to on by students, grades three to eight.

1:52

And it'll be Friday at 7 p.m.

2:03

They're really excited about seeing it.

2:04

It sounds like it's going to be a fun thing.

2:06

So anybody who's got small kids, I would suggest that you go and and patronize this.

2:12

It's costs like it doesn't cost much, it's very small, but uh I'm sure that the kids would appreciate our attendance.

2:26

Uh received a voicemail from a resident this weekend who uh would like us to update our food truck legislation to state that you cannot park a food truck in a residential district and operate unless you're part of a festival.

2:44

That's all uh updates from the home committee.

2:52

Uh the school board is planning to approve a three-year contract for resource officers at the schools.

2:57

This would be uh brought to council for approval and continue the joint effort between the schools, city, and police department.

3:02

Uh the school board is also still working through solutions on the Saywell House and having it sold or moved.

3:08

Uh nothing concrete has been presented at this time.

3:11

Um Parks Department discussed some trouble with e-bikes and neighborhoods, and they'd like us to discuss that in our next safety meeting, uh which I believe is next week.

3:19

Um, and we'll also be looking at uh the current ordinance on e-bikes and uh look to council to potentially update that if it needs it.

3:26

Um council also discussed uh the bird song project with um potential involvement from the Hudson Parks and school and the library.

3:33

Um parks is gonna be discussing that at the next meeting, I believe, and they may have already done that, Kyle.

3:38

And then um I'll be reaching out to the library for potential collaboration.

3:42

And then uh the last update was the library mentioned that um they had the approval of the levy, which accounted for I believe 70% of their budget, so they were very happy for that to pass.

3:56

Yes, I just wanted to recognize June is Pride Month, and I just wanted to um formally um put a statement out from the city of Hudson recognizing that for the month of June.

4:08

So I just wanted to kind of throw that out there.

4:11

Um if anyone had any comments or questions regarding that.

4:15

Uh we pulled some just other months that the city usually um acknowledges and several different, you know, Black History Month, um Heart History Women's, all the things.

4:28

So I think we should also acknowledge this um group in our in our city.

4:35

Um you had mentioned that there's a there was a list that's kind of put out as significant heritage and history months that are recognized by the um State Department.

4:50

Um so yeah, so I think if you if you wanted to do if we wanted to do all those official months, that would be good.

5:03

It would be good to be consistent.

5:04

And I think also it helps staff to know each month that they would be you know posting whatever the month is, and it would be on the State Department list.

5:12

So happy to explain or discuss it more.

5:17

If council wants an agenda item, we're more than happy to.

5:20

But if we don't need one, we can just go ahead and start doing it going forward.

5:28

Comments about that.

5:29

I think that'd be great.

5:30

I think recognizing members of the community, and since it's um already an official officially recognized month, that it would be great to um recognize that as a community so that we are welcoming community one more thing.

5:46

Um just regarding our um community engagement, the Clinton Crossing, um, the charrette specifically for the residents can sign up for two different sessions, which will be closing tomorrow.

5:58

Um the sessions are next Wednesday, two different times.

6:01

So if you're working or not working, um that would be a good.

6:04

I just uh made some posts regarding that that I think is helpful for everyone to stay engaged, Wednesday, Wednesday 17th.

6:16

Anyone else um so I would just like to thank the uh the ward four residents for sharing their concerns and frustrations about the the fiber install um and they shared them with um uh Bret Costco last night and Brad, thank you for being available as well.

6:38

Um there was a another gas line break last night.

6:44

There's been a several utility disruptions on Hudson Park Drive.

Summary of Proceedings

Hudson City Council Workshop – June 9, 2026

At the June 9, 2026 workshop of the Hudson City Council (7:30–8:02 PM, Town Hall), President of Council Michael Bird chaired in the absence of the Mayor. Council reviewed a consent calendar for the June 16 meeting, discussed proposed legislation on speed limits, fire hydrants, a cell tower lease, and a natural gas aggregation ballot measure, and received updates on finances, community events, and infrastructure issues.

Consent Calendar

  • May 2026 Financial Report: Assistant City Manager Knoblauch reported that income‑tax revenue is 3.1% above estimate through May (recovering from a 2.4% shortfall in April). HCTV franchise fees are 12% (≈$15,000) below estimate; ambulance fee revenues are 2.9% (≈$10,000) below estimate. City Manager Sheridan noted he is working with EMS to reduce nuisance calls (which constitute 48% of ambulance calls) and with LifeForce to recover outstanding funds. The motion was forwarded to the June 16 meeting.
  • Cogent Communications Contract Amendment: A minor amendment to add a $50/month programming fee for redundancy configuration, previously overlooked. Forwarded.
  • Darrow Road Speed Limit Reduction (Ordinance 26‑98): City Engineer Kosco explained that the segment from Valley View Road to the northern corporate line will be designated an “Urban District” under Ohio law, allowing the speed limit to drop from 45 mph to 35 mph. The designation is based on building spacing, crash trends, and safety concerns. Council member Weinstein noted the change adds 39 seconds to a 1.8‑mile trip. Council agreed to keep the item on consent for the June 16 meeting.

Discussion Items

  • Ordinance 26‑85 (Codified Ordinances Update): A third‑reading ordinance updating council meeting notification provisions. Forwarded for a vote on June 16.
  • Resolution 26‑86 (Fire Hydrants on Middleton & Stow Roads): Authorizes bidding and contracting for installation of 14 hydrants on Akron watermains. City Manager Sheridan reported he is working with the solicitor on a protective agreement with Akron. Council member Goetz suggested the Mayor and Council President meet with Akron’s mayor. Forwarded for third reading on June 16.
  • Resolution 26‑96 (Cell Tower Lease with Northstar Towers II, LLC): A long‑term lease for a telecommunications tower on city property (across from City Hall on Trix) to improve coverage in southern Hudson. Forwarded for second reading on June 16.
  • Ordinance 26‑99 (Natural Gas Aggregation Ballot Question): Would direct the Summit County Board of Elections to place an opt‑out natural gas aggregation program before voters. Council member Goetz asked if an opt‑in option was found; the broker indicated no opt‑in bid was available. Forwarded for first reading on June 16.
