The Janesville City Council met on Monday, May 11, 2026, at 6:00 PM in the Council Chambers. The meeting included recognitions, public comments, reports, consent agenda approval, action on a reckless driving impoundment ordinance, first readings for alcohol-related ordinances, approval of an infrastructure MOU, a TIF development agreement for downtown housing, and discussion of city manager recruitment. The council unanimously adopted key items and moved into closed session to discuss the interim city manager selection, later reconvening to approve an interim appointment.
Good evening. I'll call the uh May uh Monday, May 11th, uh 2026, Jamesville City Council meeting to order. Uh in case of emergency, please use the stairs and not the elevator to exit. Uh we'll go to number three of recognitions and uh consideration and action on a proposed resolution to recognize the week of May 17, 2026 as National Public Works Week in the City of Janesville. Uh file resolution number 2026-2413. Clerk, would you read the resolution, please? Resolution number 2026-2413, recognizing the week of May 17, 2026 is National Public Works Week. Whereas public works professionals focus on infrastructure, facilities, and services that are vital importance to sustainable and resilient communities and the public health, high quality of safety, high quality of life, and well-being of the people of the city of Janesville. And whereas Public Works builds and maintains community systems that improve our everyday lives, strives to protect citizens, visitors, and businesses of our communities, is an emergency first responder, and serves as the silent arm of public safety. And whereas infrastructure, facilities, and services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of public works professionals who are employed at all levels of government responsible for rebuilding, improving and protecting the nation's transportation, water supply, water treatment, and solid waste systems, public buildings and other structures and facilities essentials for essential for citizens. And whereas it is in the public interest for all citizens, civic leaders and children in the city of Janesville to gain knowledge of and maintain ongoing interest and understanding of the importance of public works and public works programs in their respective communities. And whereas 2026 marks the 66th annual National Public Works Week, sponsored by the American Public Works Association. Now, therefore, be it resolved that the Common Council of the City of Janesville on May 11, 2026, does hereby designate the week of May 17th as National Public Works Week, and hereby calls upon all citizens to join with representatives of the American Public Works Association and government agencies and activities, events, and ceremonies designed to pay tribute to public works professionals, engineers, managers, and employees, and to recognize the substantial contributions they make to protecting our national health, safety, and quality of life. Um other comments up here regarding the topic. Largely unrecognized and underappreciated group of people that are essential to the city. Yeah, uh takes a lot of bodies and minds and effort to continue to keep a city of this size uh functioning and operating, and it's always timely when it comes in May when we know that it's orange barrel season that comes along with it.
