As long as you're a Lennox uh resident, you can come up and speak into the microphone for the folks that are listening at home, and you will have two minutes.

1:01

Slight quick thing here is that if you are here to talk about the traffic, the open the public meeting for the traffic situation, hold tight then, and we'll take comments on the ex on the traffic plan at that time pertaining to that.

1:12

If you have anything else to chat about, please do feel free to step up to the microphone.

Speaker 4

1:17

That's how people have signed up, Virginia.

1:19

Yeah.

Speaker 5

1:19

Well, I'm going to step up because I don't know about the traffic plan and what you're doing.

My name is Virginia Schwerin.

1:25

I'm a resident of Lenoxdale.

1:26

I've been there for at least 37 years, raised my five kids there.

1:30

Um the villagers in our town are looking for long-term answers for safety on Walker Street going down into the Dale.

1:38

Um we were lobbied or not lobby, but we um advocated for a digital monitor at the beginning of the village last summer 2025, and we got it put up and then it was removed and moved to other places.

1:54

Um in the fall of this year, I notified um the Department of Public Works as well as the police department that I had a handicapped child living on my property and that I would be requesting more traffic um control as well as um the digital monitor and a hand cap sign.

2:17

Um I followed up with a visit in person to the police as well as town, and I was told

Unassigned speaker

2:24

I

Speaker 5

2:24

was followed up with a phone call that said, who is this handicapped person?

2:28

Is she really residing there, and what is her handicap?

2:31

And I informed him that I had a young woman who was physically disabled and used a walker, but also who was completely blind.

2:40

A young girl who'd be attending our schools.

2:42

Um they promised me some action.

2:48

We got the portable digital monitor up, and the sign for the young woman never got put up.

2:57

Um she was delayed in coming to school due due to getting special services for her.

3:04

And then finally in January, a bus started coming to pick her up, and at which time I called the town again with a really serious safety concern.

3:12

On top of it, we have a detour going on in Lenoxdale for the Turnpike.

3:19

We had all the traffic from the night crew happening while I was the day.

3:23

Is that two minutes?

3:24

So I'm just seeking long-term answers.

3:27

We're wanting a digital monitor that's permanent, and we're wanting it to be patrolled, and we're wanting we even want to look at lowering your speed limit.

3:34

Thank you.

Speaker 6

3:34

3:46

Uh I attend Post Road and I'm here with my hat uh on for Affordable House, the Affordable Housing Trust, and I have two things.

3:53

Lenox Select Board Regular Meeting - March 11, 2026

The Lenox Select Board held a regular meeting on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 4:00 PM. The board addressed routine approvals, a public hearing on traffic regulation changes, and a detailed budget development update. Key actions included adopting a two-year test of one-way streets to add downtown parking and advancing budget preparations for the annual town meeting.

Consent Calendar

  • Approval of Minutes (February 25, 2026): The board unanimously approved the minutes as amended to include Director Robert Mulnotti's last name.
  • Kennedy Park Use Request: Mass Audubon received permission to use Kennedy Park trails on March 13, 2026, for the Wild Thing 5K and 10K fundraiser. The motion passed unanimously.

Public Comments & Testimony

  • Virginia Schwerin (Lenoxdale resident): Expressed safety concerns on Walker Street, citing a lack of permanent traffic control measures, a requested handicap sign for a blind and physically disabled resident that was never installed, and increased traffic from a Turnpike detour. She advocated for a permanent digital speed monitor, lowered speed limits, and police patrols.
  • Kate McNelty Vaughn (Affordable Housing Trust): Promoted a housing forum on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the community center to gather public input for updating the town’s housing production plan. She also announced two openings on the Affordable Housing Trust and encouraged community involvement.

Discussion Items

  • Public Hearing on One-Way Streets (Amendment to Section 6.1 and Schedule 3 of Traffic Rules): The board proposed making Church Street one-way northerly (from Housatonic Street to Franklin Street) and Franklin Street one-way westerly (from Church Street to Main Street), adding 26 parking spots to replace those lost from a planned gravel lot sale. Joe MeJ, a longtime resident and Main Street business owner, questioned the need and effort, noting the gravel lot remains available temporarily. He also raised concerns about existing traffic diversion from Tanglewood during summer. A chamber representative expressed support, citing benefits for delivery truck bottlenecks and improved visibility for Church Street businesses. The board clarified the change is cost-effective (estimated signage and striping under $20,000) and reversible, intended as a two-year test. Following discussion, the board voted to adopt the amendment as a two-year trial.
  • Budget Development Update and Town Meeting Warrant: Town officials presented the proposed FY2027 budget, totaling $43,355,851 to be raised. Key drivers included education ($19 million), general government ($6.5 million), debt service for the public safety building, and enterprise accounts. Revenue projections included a $1 million increase in local lodging tax receipts to offset tax levy growth. State aid (UGA and Chapter 70) continues to lag, contributing to local tax pressure. Meeting participants (select board members, town manager, finance committee) discussed specific line items, including police cruiser purchases (capital funded from free cash), community center seasonal staffing, beach maintenance costs, and wastewater expenses (sludge disposal and Pittsfield contract). The board acknowledged the need for long-term capital planning and balancing taxpayer burden with infrastructure needs. No votes were taken, but the board indicated the next budget workshop will occur before the April 8 target for finalizing the town meeting warrant.

Key Outcomes

  • Unanimous votes to approve minutes and the Kennedy Park use request.
  • Adoption of one-way street amendment (Church and Franklin Streets) as a two-year test, effective upon implementation. The public hearing was closed after the vote.
  • Budget discussion concluded with plans to continue at the next regular meeting on March 25, 2026, and for a workshop before the April 8 warrant finalization.
