The Equity, Community Affairs, Housing, Health, and Education Committee held a special meeting on Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 12:03 PM to 1:17 PM in the Council Chambers to conduct its 21st Annual Black History Month Program under the theme "Reaffirming Our Diverse Culture." Chair Barbara Shanklin (D-2) presided. All eight committee members were present, along with nine non-committee council members. The program honored 25 district honorees and 5 special community honorees, plus a special recognition to Edwin Ernest, Director of Metro Council Services.
Pop a program. Get them out of homelessness and prevent them to go back into homelessness. Try to create stability for these individuals. They will be required to do quarterly reports to report on the success of their programs. And we have a very set guidelines for HUD on the things that they need to do, what they can apply for. We also have strict regulations, so they do need to know those in order to be administered these grants. And Mrs. Warwick made me earn my spot. But in working for it, it taught me how to be the councilwoman who could then fight for this district. Today we honor you not just for your fight, but as sitting in this seat, I realized very few people will ever understand what it costs you to do what you do. It's a small token. But it's the least that we can do to say thank you. We appreciate you. We are grateful for you. Whether you're pan frying bacon, beef, or pork, or deep frying potatoes, chicken, or your holiday turkey. There will be leftover fat or used cooking oil to dispose of. Never pour that fat, oil, or grease into a sink, toilet, or storm drain. It creates a buildup that can cause costly backups and overflows in plumbing and sewer systems. And it can pollute our local waterways. Then put the container of cooled fat into your garbage to keep it out of plumbing in local waterways. That cooking oil left over from Deep Frying should be recycled. First, let the oil cool down, strain out any food particles, and pour the oil into a container. Then drop off the container at the nearest full service recycling center. The used cooking oil will be converted into biodiesel fuel. For more information, go to Louisville MSD.org slash at home. Louisville Metro has contracted with Pacific Coast Conservation to clean. Is it okay if I get in there? And restore nine pieces in the city's public art collection. I'm just worried about that one ledge. They're going to be using um tool to cut the bolt. We are removing pan off of the top of Hogan's Fountain in Cherokee Park. We'll just see what comes up. It's just gonna take it off the top of the fountain so we can deal with the sculptural piece of it and um clean and restore. Enid Yandel is one of Louisville's most famous and celebrated sculptors. It's a fixture in the park. You know, Hogan's Fountain is um it's iconic. I've been coming up here since um, how's this? No, but uh I forced his name and I kind of messed up at least it didn't say Anthony P. Hashini underneath the I left the chaos. Oh so I just kind of wrote it in.
