The Committee on Committees met on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 4:01 PM in Council Chambers/Virtual, chaired by Council President Markus Winkler. A quorum was present with Vice Chair Paula McCraney (D-7) and Committee Member Cindi Fowler (D-14) (attending virtually), while Committee Members Kevin Kramer (R-11) and Anthony Piagentini (R-19) were excused. The meeting lasted until 4:09 PM and focused on assigning new legislation to appropriate committees and acting on pending legislation.
Council President Winkler introduced a resolution amending the Metro Council Employee Handbook to update the social media policy. He noted that the policy was written specifically for Metro Council and addresses data retention, ethics compliance, and First Amendment protections for both Council users and the public. An amendment (R-010-23 V.2 CAM) correcting technical and grammatical errors was moved by Committee Member Fowler, seconded by Vice Chair McCraney, and passed by voice vote without opposition. Assistant Jefferson County Attorney Kathryn Meador spoke in support, emphasizing that the policy enhances First Amendment protections. The amended resolution was then recommended for approval by a voice vote (motion by Vice Chair McCraney, second by Committee Member Fowler) and sent to Old Business.
You get to see uh local art and enjoy being out in the downtown's street. I really think beautification takes many forms, color, design, artistry. If that isn't by a mural that's painted on a building, it's street gallery, if it's the alley gallery doorways that you see, banners that hang on the light poles, all of these things make somebody know that they're in the right place. It's a place that's being taken care of. There is a reason to appreciate where you are. So if you've ever come to one of our recycling drop-off sites, you know that those dumpsters are often very full and overflowing, but we are slowly converting them. We're in the parking lot of the Cyril Augier Community Center, and this is our first location that has made the switch. So having these smaller dumpsters that can be emptied on site will keep them from overflowing so easily. The larger dumpsters used to have to be put onto a truck and driven all the way to the recycling center, then emptied and then brought back. And our goal is to have a cleaner and safer environment for our residents that use these. And Council Rule 5A.
