The Virginia Key Beach Park Trust met on October 8, 2026, to consider a resolution appointing Connor Green to the Virginia Key Advisory Board, approve prior meeting minutes, and discuss the status of the executive director. The meeting included no public comments. The chair proposed immediate termination of the executive director over alleged unauthorized salary increases.
Okay. Welcome to the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust meeting for October 8th, 2026. At this time, Mr. City Attorney, would you please read the items before us? There's one resolution for consideration, a resolution of the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust appointing Connor Green, subject to confirmation by the City of Miami City Commission as a member of the Virginia Key Advisory Board for a term as designated hearing. The Virginia Key Advisory, but not the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust. Correct. There is a vacancy on the Virginia Key Advisory Board, and that vacancy is appointed by this board, the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust. Okay, because we have a vacancy of one of our board members that the D5 Commissioner appoints. Okay, so that's not for that season. That's not for that. Just making sure. Okay, what else? And just the two discussion items. All right, is there anyone here that would like to speak on behalf of any of these items? Seeing none, public comment period is closed. Gentlemen, may I have a motion for AM1, the Virginia Key Beach Park Trust meeting minutes for July 9th and RE1. Second. All in favor? Gentlemen, did you guys receive the executive director's quarterly update? Yes. Do you need any um no? Okay, let's move to discussion item two, status of the executive director. It has been brought to my attention upon reviewing the budget for the past three years that the executive director gave herself an increase of thirty thousand dollars without my knowledge. In the second year, she received a thirteen thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine increase, and in the third year, almost a ten thousand dollar increase. And today I'm proposing her termination. In addition to this, milestones have not been met. So I could have taken the route of requesting this termination for cause, other than the egregious increasing salary of thirty thousand dollars in the first year. In hiring her, she had asked for a certain salary, and I said I could not do that. It was do that, or my colleague, Commissioner Diaz de la Portilla would have been the chair. So I had no choice. So I could not offer the salary that she requested. Now let's say for argument's sake that I said in a year I would give her a $30,000 increase. There was never a subsequent discussion, nor was that brought to any of the board members' attention that I am aware of. This is the first time I did not want to make this public, but she would not resign and accept the two weeks that I offered. I cannot, in good conscience, offer more than two weeks because I equate giving yourself a $30,000 increase to stealing. If that was her position that I said she could, I think I would have been owed a subsequent conversation. Is this okay? Is this still okay? And not just do it. And yes, it was put in the budget, but it was put in the budget such a way that none of us knew. And I would ask board member Brown if he knew of the increase or increases, and it's just it is just agregious. 30,000, and anybody that knows me knows I would never do this.
