The Minneapolis City Council met on August 13, 2026, with 10 members present (a quorum). The meeting began with a ceremonial resolution honoring Minnesota People of Color LGBTQ+ Pride and Twin Cities Black Pride 2026, followed by approval of the agenda, minutes, and referrals. The council then considered reports from standing committees, including a contested appointment to the Minnesota Ballpark Authority and a resolution for a voluntary relocation plan for Heritage Park residents. All items were voted on with detailed roll calls.
Good morning, my name is Elliot Payne. I'm the president of Minneapolis City Council. Before we convene our meeting, we have the presentation of honorary resolution recognizing Minnesota People of Color, LGBTQ plus Pride and Twin Cities Black Pride 2026. I'll invite Council Members Vita and Traves to give that presentation. Good morning. Good morning. Good. How are you seeing you? Thank you for being with us this morning. Good morning. Good morning. Happy Black Pride. Good morning. Yes, absolutely. Good morning. How are you? I'm good. Good to see you. Yes, absolutely. All right. We have our distinguished guest here with us this morning. So I'll get started. This resolution is honoring Minnesota People of Color, LGBTQ Plus Pride, and Twin Cities Black Pride 2026. Whereas Minnesota People of Color, LGBTQ Plus Pride, MNPOC Pride, founded in 1999, has served the Twin Cities community for more than 25 years by creating affirming spaces that celebrate, empower, and uplift the LGBTQ plus people of color through advocacy, education, health initiatives, cultural programming, and community engagement. And whereas MNPOC Pride was founded in 1999 through the vision and leadership of Dennis Anderson, Latanya Noble, and Ray Mel Givens, whose commitment to creating safe, affirming and culturally responsive spaces has strengthened and expanded opportunities for LGBTQ plus people of color throughout Minnesota. And third one? Okay. Whereas Twin Cities Black Pride is one of the Minnesota's largest running celebrations dedicated to honoring the history, resilience, leadership, and contributions of LGBTQ plus people of color while fostering inclusion, equity, and belonging for all residents. And whereas a 2026 Twin Cities Black Pride celebration themed always better together recognizes the power of community, collective liberation, and collaboration and creating a more just and welcoming Minneapolis, and whereas the Minnesota People of Color LGBTQ plus Pride works year-round to improve the health outcomes, develop youth leadership, strengthen community partnerships, and create opportunities that support the well-being of LGBTQ plus communities across Minnesota through community events, public health initiatives, youth leadership development, advocacy, and cultural programming. All right, they let me uh relive my council uh memories again. Whereas the city of Minneapolis recognizes the importance of organizations that promote equity, celebrate diversity, preserve community history, and build stronger communities through service, education, advocacy, and leadership. Now, therefore, be it resolved that the mayor and the city council do hereby honor Minnesota's people of color, LGBTQ plus pride for its more than 25 years of service to the city of Minneapolis and the state of Minnesota. Recognizes the organization's continued commitment to uplifting LGBTQ IA Plus People of Color and celebrates the 2026 Twin Cities Black Pride celebration. The city further recognizes the vision and the leadership of its founders, Dennis Anderson, Latanya LT Noble, and Raymel Gibson Gibbons, whose dedication has created a lasting legacy of advocacy, inclusion, and community empowerment. Congratulations. Thank you, guys. I just want to say that we do have an event today. It's a youth health fair event over at Sibathony, and it's at in the um back the banquet hall on the second floor. We're giving away free backpacks. Uh we have a kids' auction. We also have uh a lot of vendors there for health fair, so um free haircuts for kids and free food for kids. So come on over. We have a food truck out there to give it away free food for uh K through twelve. Thank you, Latanya. And I just want to add they forgot Tyree, and he made that very clear. You want to say something? That's the man. Okay. All right. All right.
