I went into a room. Christopher's three years old. He's there bandaged up, scrapes on his torso, his face. Being a father, it it struck me in the heart. I felt for this child. He was all alone. He was being babysat by a total stranger. Scared, but I could tell that she was hurt. I don't know if she could hear Christopher screaming in the other room. And I'm like, a police officer in my room. And it was like, you know, a daily thing. It wasn't just a one-time thing. And you know, he would talk to me, he would tell me about my kids and how they're doing and how they were great kids. And he just became a part of us, you know, throughout everything, whether it was being in the hospital or being in rehab. He would come and visit us and visit the kids and bring Christopher soccer balls and bring star a doll. He even got his uh a Christmas tree. I let the department know how important it was that Christopher and and Starr needed gifts. The department made it a point to make sure that we went by the residence and handed out Christmas gifts to them. They came with, you know, the SWAT. There was a Santa Claus. They came with gifts, and it was just so amazing because all the kids on the block, they got to enjoy that too. They got to see, you know, a different side of police officers. Christopher, being three at the time, he had no idea what he wanted to do with his life. He's three. And ever since Officer Gonzalez has been in our lives and a part of our lives. He wants to be a police officer. Michelle's a person that has so much strength and determination. I know for a fact that we'll be friends for life. He he's just wonderful kind. I mean, he's irreplaceable. Hello, Miramar. What a beautiful day to start this great reunion of my two volunteers. My name is Marcia Aikins, and I'm the volunteer coordinator for the police department volunteers. Here I have Mr. Owen Walker, who was our volunteer for the year, and our citizen and patrol volunteer, and Miss Sandra Vichcom, who is a clerical volunteer that helped an assist in all departments. I am going to get more information about volunteering, but our citizen patrol volunteer, Mr. Owen Walker, is here with us, and he has been with the city of Miramar for 10 years. And he has been a remarkable volunteer. Always here, takes everything as it comes and helps everyone. And Sandra is a volunteer with clerical. She does not live in the city, but she likes to be here, and she's been a volunteer for the last two years. What prompted you to be a volunteer in the city of Miramar? How did you hear about us? So Miss Marcia, I wanted to be a volunteer in the police department because I've been always been doing volunteer work at um at other places. So I wanted to start also in the police department. And I worked very close to uh uh to here in um in Pembroke Pines. So it was uh just relative that I I started here and um it's um I just wanted to make new friends and contacts and uh and to help the community in uh in Miramar, even though I I live in Coral Springs. Oh, you enjoyed it. I enjoy you very much, and I enjoy it too. I enjoy working with you very much, and I also like working with the code enforcement.
