On February 18, 2025, at 4:00 PM, the Miramar City Commission held a special workshop meeting to discuss partnership opportunities between the City of Miramar and Broward County Public Schools (BCPS). The meeting focused on two primary initiatives: expanding Coral Cove Elementary’s performing arts program to a K‑8 school, and launching a Local Government Academy (LGA) at Miramar and Everglades High Schools. Presenters included city staff, BCPS representatives, and school board member Rebecca Thompson. The workshop was held in advance of a formal resolution scheduled for the next day’s commission meeting.

I mean it's probably very bad. You want me to move this out of your fine. Yes, yes, but I think uh doing the dog leave the mouse in the middle. Or it'll show the next slide. I heard the answer. I think that's more appropriate than yeah, right. Let me find out if we have more than one turn. Good evening, everyone. This meeting is being streamed live at Miramar FL.gov slash commission meeting and televised on Comcast Channel Seventy Eight and ATNT Uverse Channel 99 for all Miramar subscribers. The meeting of the Miramar City Commission workshop is now called to order. The purpose of our first workshop is a meeting to discuss the following the Broward County Public Schools and City of Miramar partnership opportunities. It will be the project. This initiative reflects our sheer commitment to investing in the future for students by providing them real work experiences, meaningful uh career pathways, and valuable connection with our community. Through today's presentation, you will hear about the program's goals and our carefully planned timeline and the opportunities we are creating to inspire the next generation of civic community leaders. So at this moment, um I'd like to introduce our staff, Dr. Maxwell to open the presentation. Decisions were made based on the analysis of the data, which will be which will impact three elementary schools within the city of Miramar. I don't have my slides there. Coral Cove, Silver Lakes, and Silver Shores. Coral Cove Elementary, which is currently a K through five, will become a K through eight beginning with grade six in the 2025-26 academic year. Silver Shores students will attend Silver Lakes and Silver Palms based on location, and Silver Shores will become a K through eight full choice school. And Dr. Wanza will speak more on that later. In October of last year, the city manager's office was approached by BCPS regarding two partnership opportunities. I will speak on the first, and ACM Gale will speak on the second. Coracove Elementary has an innovative performing arts program. This program will be extended over the next three years to include up to grade eight. The requests for the cultural center to provide workshops and speakers to highlight a collaborative effort with Coral Cove. There is a meeting scheduled with Coral Cove and the Cultural Center during the first week of March to discuss further. Phase two of the redefining initiative includes an assessment of programming opportunities for schools in historic Miramar. You will now hear from the principal of Coral Cove Elementary, Miss Stephanie Sabin, after which ACM Gale will speak about the second partnership opportunity. We have a performing arts program that is unique in West Miramar. We are recognized in Broward County as an innovative program, and we have seats available all the time. We're looking for you to come join our community where we build students' confidence through the arts and academics. We work collaboratively to make sure that all of our students feel special and unique while also feeling empowered to do great things. All of our students in pre-K through second grade perform and we build poise and expertise on the stage through the arts. Each year, our kindergarten students perform for Christmas. Our second graders perform for our Hispanic Heritage Night, and our first graders perform for our Black History performance in the host that they will work towards auditioning for our musical theater production. This year we're performing Little Mermaid. All right, I have seen firsthand the impact of this program, especially on our students who may have special needs or students for English may not be their first language. Through the arts, they have that ability to express themselves. We're also proud that we have been backed by the city of Miramar and many of our efforts. And I think one of the things that makes us the most unique and the most special is the community that we've built for our students. Coral Cove is a very loving, caring place. So I would like to invite you to see everything that we have to offer at Coral Cove. It's a wonderful place to learn and grow, and we can't wait to see you here. Thank you. I am Sean Gale, Assistant City Manager. As Dr. McSwain mentioned, as Dr.
