But it's nice to know that we have citizens that counter that darkness with heroism and light and really show what our community is all about.

Um we recognize our officers many times when they do brave things, but we also have an award to recognize citizens who aren't expected to that step up and do brave things.

And so tonight I'm giving both Sergio and Anna the Oswego Police Department Outstanding Citizen Award.

I'm not gonna read the nomination because President Kaufman's gonna do a nice proclamation that talks about everything they did, but they are being awarded this award in recognition of outstanding bravery, courage, and strength that directly resulted in the capture of a homicide suspect.

Whereas on Wednesday, October twenty second, twenty twenty five, Sergio Irebe Jr.

and Ana Aribe displayed remarkable courage during an encounter with a homicide suspect.

While working in the early hours of October twenty second, Sergio was attacked by the suspect, and instead of succumbing to his injuries, Sergio fought back against the suspect with the help of his mother Anna.

Together, they were able to subdue the suspect, call 911, and maintain control of the suspect until police arrived.

Their bravery and determination directly led to the suspect's capture and ensured the safety of our community by preventing the suspect from escaping and inflicting further harm to others and the responding officers.

Therefore, I Ryan Kaufman, president of the Village of Oswego, on behalf of the Village Board and the entire family, I hereby commend Sergio and Anna for their outstanding bravery.
