The Pleasantville Village Board of Trustees held a regular meeting on August 7, 2025, preceded by a work session. During the meeting, the board passed twelve resolutions, approved payments, and discussed community issues including a proposed election date change, parking lot modifications, infrastructure updates, and the sale of a vacant property.
Our work session and moving to the regular session. Good evening all uh and welcome to the regular village board meeting for the village uh board for Pleasantville. Today is Monday, July 28. Uh we just completed the work session uh where we discussed uh a number of items, including uh a recently received petition to propose a referendum item to change the date of village elections from March to November. We're working through the verification of that. Uh, we talked about a proposal to modify the Hopper Street parking lot near the parkway fields to the to a possible two-way. Bunch of points were raised about uh issues that might be created if we did that, and which would argue uh in favor of maintaining one-way, but we also talked about ways to perhaps improve uh the conditions down there and to address some of the concerns that have been pointed out. And then lastly, we've updated in a general way the conversations we've so far to the school district with the Fields and Lights Committee, uh, and with the assistance of former trustee Cunningham, who uh happened to be here and is a member of that committee, just upstating where we stand right now. We're waiting for feedback on all of that, but uh worth making the point uh that um the school board has uh lined up a public forum, which is taking place tomorrow, Tuesday, July 29 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Uh, the purpose of which is to have a presentation and I assume a QA about uh what where they stand with long-term planning for the school district. So again, that is Tuesday, tomorrow, July 29 at 7 p.m. in uh the high school auditorium. A couple of other points uh just to run down a shout out to our parks department and to so many people in the community who came uh to the second in our civic space concert, which took place on Saturday night. Uh the band was heard immunity, uh, which includes former Mount Pleasant Council member and current Mount Pleasant uh village or town justice Mark Rubio, uh heard immunity uh brought their talents to uh Memorial Plaza. It was a great night, uh food truck and all of that. So I think we've had two of those and uh they've been uh both great nights. There is uh one more uh that is planned, and that is that is Saturday, August 23, 7 to 9 p.m., same time, same channel. So thanks to everybody who came and made it such a good night. County uh uh emergency preparedness messages are going out as we're entering the storm season and potential hurricane season, reminding folks that you can go to ready.gov, which is a worthwhile place to take a look uh about logical emergency planning as we approach the hurricane season. Um, as is always you can pick up our village board meetings on uh videotape on demand. Um within a few days, this meeting, and you can also pick up past meetings. Go to Pleasantville-NY.gov, click on the government tab, and agendas and minutes, scroll down, and you can choose what you want. And uh blessedly you can zip through the things you don't want to hear to get to the thing you wanted. Um, a question was asked by a young man uh about whether he was entitled to ride an electric scooter. That led the police chief uh to opine on that. And I just throw it out there because we've seen a bunch of these things uh right now. And again, I'll quote the police chief and his response to this young man. In New York State, no one under the age of 16 is allowed to operate a motorized vehicle like an electric scooter on a public road or sidewalk. You don't have to have a driver's license, but you have to be 16. Is that right? That is right. Right. So you're allowed to use a motorized vehicle on the sidewalk. You are not officially allowed to use a motor as a vehicle on a side. There clearly are circumstances where um uh for some riders that feel safer, but it creates a pedestrian concern. So at any rate, safety issue from past for folks who are imagining uh providing their less than 16-year-old with a motorized vehicle.
