I'm actually introduced each one of them, but we'll go into item two uh overview of the summer ambassador summer internship program.

Good morning, everyone's division within the Department of Human Services.

Um we our programming covers kind of the broad width.

We start off at uh providing services to children six weeks, and we go all the way up to 24 years of age.

Um before I begin, like talking about the ambassador program.

I just kind of want to recap.

I know some of y'all probably can cite this better than I do, but just the research that's out there on the importance of internships, particularly paid internships.

Um there was a Wall Street Journal article in 2024 that like had these beautiful charts.

I wish I brought copies of it.

Um, but basically, when a college graduate, when they graduate, they're like two times more likely to get a job with um a professional job with professional wages, and they're all but also more likely to get more job opportunities than those who did not have any internships.

Um we also know just the importance of career explorations for youth.

So besides just the monetary gain, there's just self-awareness of what they want to be when they grow up and also what they don't want to be when they grow up.

I know that I remember this one intern that we had an ambassador that she was dead set on becoming a lawyer, and we placed her in a law firm, and she realized that was not for her at all.

Um, and she got into the program the second year.

We actually placed her in the HR at CPS, and she loved it.

It was something she had never even thought about and ended up changing her uh major because she wanted to go in HR.

So again, just the awareness of what you want to do and what you don't want to do is super important.

Um the ambassador program, it launched in 2004.

Um, Secretary Mayor uh Julian Castro when he was uh city council member to us, he'll always be our former mayor, but officially he is uh Secretary Castro.
