Per executive order 2920, which suspends certain requirements of the Brown Act.

The committee members will be participating via Zoom.

In addition, the meeting is being televised and live streamed on the city's website.

No members of the public will be in physical attendance at the meeting in the interest of public health and safety.

However, the committee liaison has made arrangements for the public to make comments using the Zoom webinar platform.

As we go forward, I'll go over the specifics of how to join the webinar and we'll give details on how people can offer public testimony.

At this time, I will call the land use and housing committee meeting of Friday, March 12th, 2021 to order.

Taking a look at the roll call, I see that Vice Chair Ila Rivera, Councilmember LaCava, and Councilmember Moreno are all with us.

I'm here as well, so we have a quorum and all are in attendance.

I'd also like to welcome from the Office of Independent Budget Analyst, Charles Bodica, from the Mayor's Office, Randy Wilde, and from the City Attorney's Office, we have Corinne Doofer.

Why Sandy, why are San Diego local parks important?

And I quote just as water, sewer, and public safety are considered essential public services.

Parks are vitally important to establishing and maintaining the quality of life in a community, ensuring the health of families and youth and contributing to the economic and environmental well-being of a community and a region.

End of quote.

I am sad to say that our downtown parks are failing.

Two examples follow.

So much money and placements have been lost on the historic Horton Plaza Park.

Its grand opening on May 4th, 2016 was a celebration imprinted on my heart.
