The San Francisco Board of Supervisors held its regular meeting on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, beginning at 10:15 AM. All 11 members were present. The meeting included approval of minutes, consent calendar items, regular agenda items, committee reports, roll call introductions, special order commendations, and public comment. Consent Calendar
- Items 1 through 12 were approved without objection, including settlements, budget appropriations, and various routine actions.
- Items 13 through 49 were passed on same house, same call, including grant amendments, leases, ordinances related to the Public Utilities Commission, language access, building fees, surveillance technology, landmark designation, and community benefit district reports.
Public Comments & Testimony
- Multiple speakers from Parent Voices San Francisco and early childhood education advocates expressed full support for Baby Prop C funding and urged the board to ensure that funding stays with children and families. Speakers highlighted the need for respite care, expanded eligibility, and support for children with special needs. They thanked Supervisors Melgar, Chan, Ronan, and Safai for sponsoring a resolution on child care.
- Speakers from City College of San Francisco appealed the SFMTA's Frida Kahlo Way Quick Build Project, requesting signatures to proceed with an appeal. They presented an alternative plan and expressed disappointment that protocol prevented other supervisors from signing without the district supervisor's authorization.
- Other public comments addressed a public hearing request regarding housing conditions, and a critique of intelligence and pride.

- Special Order Commendations (2:30 PM): The board recognized several individuals and groups:
- Amy Appel for swimming from the Golden Gate to the Farallon Islands (17 hours, 43°F water, no wetsuit).
- Sabejit Sev Ghosh (Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy) and Dr. Carol Tang (Children’s Creativity Museum) for co-hosting the Climate Action Youth Summit with nearly 1,000 attendees.
- Gary Virginia and Donna Sachet for 25 years of the Pride Brunch, which raised over $645,000 for PRC.
- Jerry Coleman, veteran prosecutor (45 years in the SFDA’s office), for his post-conviction immigration relief work under Penal Code 1473.7, handling over 350 cases with a 98.6% approval rate and preventing deportations. Supervisor Ronan criticized the district attorney for not renewing his contract.
- Roll Call Introductions: Supervisors introduced various resolutions and ordinances:
- Supervisor Walton: Resolutions urging employers to recognize Juneteenth and reaffirming language access; in memoriams for Francis Marie Mitchell and Oscar Mauricio Moron.
