I'm Matt Haney, Chair of the Budget and Appropriations Committee.

I'm joined by committee members President Walton, Supervisors Ronan, Safai and Marr.

And so this is an item that we always introduce annually to really kick off formally our budget process for the upcoming fiscal years.

It is a motion that generally the uh the entire board of supervisors signs on to.

And uh we have almost all of our our colleagues, but hopefully ultimately we will have everyone.

Uh we have uh gone through a process of getting uh feedback uh from your respective offices, from uh the mayor's office, city agencies, service provider networks, labor partners, and members of the public uh to help to define what these shared goals and principles will be.

And of course, this is only uh a broad framework that will help to guide both our timeline and our process for our deliberation for the upcoming fiscal years uh 22 to 23 and 23 and 24.

Uh these priorities uh speak to the needs of San Franciscans uh to make sure that families during the ongoing pandemic uh have their basic needs met and that we rebuild San Francisco coming out of the pandemic toward a more equitable, just and uh uh future.

Uh we are gonna prioritize a number of things which I think will be very familiar to uh this committee and to our board uh that have come from uh your input, uh housing affordability, housing stability and homelessness services, uh health care access, including funding programs and resources to mental health SF to address the mental health and drug treatment issues in our city, uh early care and education, youth educational services, and the expansion of family support services and wraparound services for our schools, support service services for seniors and people with disabilities, resources to address the climate crisis through resiliency and city measures that reduce admissions in buildings, transportation and equipment, uh, open space and recreation improvements, and expedited pedestrian and vision zero improvements, uh COVID recovery and relief for small businesses and restaurants, increased services for healthier streets, public safety ambassadors and community safety plans, uh, and commercial assets and historic preservation for API community and API Cultural Corridor Preservation.

Um these shared goals will guide our discussions throughout the budget process.

And uh in April, the committee will hold hearings focused on key departments that are of most interest to all district offices and will center their conversations around these issues and priorities.

Uh I want to take this opportunity to congratulate uh our new chair, uh Supervisor Ronin, uh, who will lead uh you all and all of us uh through this process.

And uh I will save my uh going away remarks for my for my last uh committee meeting next week.

Uh but I I will just say for now that that it's been uh such a privilege uh to work with you all uh as your chair of this committee uh budget and appropriations as well as button finance.
