I am Supervisor Dean Preston, the chair of this committee.

Agenda number one is an ordinance amending the police code to require grocery store, drugstore, restaurant, and on-demand delivery service employers to provide health and scheduling protections related to COVID-19 to their workers and to sunset in an emergency ordinance with similar requirements.

Um, and uh so at this time um I believe uh that Supervisor Haney's chief of staff, uh Abigail Rivamonte Mesa will be here with uh comments on this item and like to turn the floor over to her now.

Good morning, supervisors.

My name is Abigail Rivamonte Mesa, and I'm here on behalf of Supervisor Haney on our workers' protections ordinance.

As you all may recall, this item was continued from last um the last meeting in light of some substantive amendments that we made during committee.

Uh, the legislation before you uh strengthens our worker protections that are covered by the health officers' orders during COVID 19 because it gives workers an additional level of protection and a mechanism to file a complaint with the Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement.

Today we have some nice non-substantive amendments for your consideration that I previously circulated to all of the committee members for consideration.

Uh, just walking through two of those amendments.

Just walking through two of those amendments, the first amendment clarifies that employees must be paid their normal rate of pay for addition typing services and in accordance with other high touch area areas and in accordance with existing law and independent contractors must also be paid no less than the personal services minimum minimum contractual rate ordinance, other admin code, chapter 12 12 V.

That's noted in page six lines three through eight in your uh ordinance that that I circulated previously.
