Welcome to the December 1st, 2022 regular meeting of the Government Audit and Oversight Committee of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.

I'm Supervisor Dean Preston, Chair of the Committee.

I'm joined by Vice Chair Connie Chan and Supervisor Matt Dorsey, our committee clerk today is Stephanie Cabrera, and want to thank the team at SFGov TV for staffing this meeting.

The Board of Supervisors and its committees are now convening hybrid meetings that allow in-person attendance and public comment while still providing remote access and public comment via telephone.

The board recognizes that equitable public access is essential and will be taking public comment as follows.

First, public comment will be taken on each item on this agenda.

Those attending in person will be allowed to speak first.

Then we will take those who are waiting on the telephone line.

Item number one is a hearing to discuss the Department of Public Health's draft plan to create a proactive citywide trauma response to the gun violence and request the Department of Public Health and the Mayor's Office of Public Safety to report.

Thank you, Madam Clerk and uh colleagues.

Today the Department of Public Health will be presenting its plan to proactively reach out to neighbors to offer trauma counseling and other services following a shooting.

Uh this plan is the result of a resolution uh passed unanimously uh by the board in June of this year.

Um the original resolution came about after uh a fatal shooting in the Fillmore earlier this year when my office met with uh a sobbing mother and her son, both of them clearly in shock uh because of bullets that went through their apartment walls and actually remained lodged in their apartment wall uh days after the shooting.

Uh they wanted to can get connected to counseling and mental health support.

Uh, my office and and I spent uh weeks working with the Department of Public Health and Community Partners to arrange resources for them and also arrange um uh proactive outreach uh and drop-in counseling for some of their neighbors who also needed um assistance.

And this is you know, really throughout the past year in particular, our office has again and again mobilized to address these needs for our constituents situations where we have uh we uh have to advocate for traumatized community members just to get basic counseling and services that we believe uh they should be getting in a more proactive manner.
