All right, that brings us to our study item.

Parks recreation open space and arts plan update.

Good evening.

My name is Mary Reedy, and I am the interim director for the recreation, cultural, and community services department.

And we are here this evening with to present our update and status update on our Parks Recreation Open Space and Arts Plan.

It'll be this is the first time of I think three scheduled times that we will be coming and presenting this to the commission throughout the course of the development of the plan.

And I will let my co-presenters introduce themselves.

I'm Tom Beckwith.

I'm the consultant for the PROSA Plan.

I'm Jacob Bilbo, project manager, the city of Shoreline.

I have a um head cold and a sore throat.

Mary and I really like each other, but we're gonna get our distance.

I'm keeping my distance.

All right, I'll get us started off.

Um in October of 2022, we introduced Stepherson and Associates, who is the public engagement consultant for the PROSA plan, um, along with their approach to outreach and engagement.

And then in November of 2022, we contracted separately with Beckwith, and at that time we laid out the framework for a five-phase approach to completing all remaining PROZA plan work other than outreach.

And I'll get into that a little more in a moment.

Um the current 2017 to 2023 PROS Plan was the first plan that was created by the city to call out strategic action initiatives.

And while it was still in the sense a traditional plan, it included more public outreach than in the past.

And so we decided to continue with this framework due to its functionality and the ability for staff to base work plans off of these initiatives.

Um the current strategic action initiatives have helped guide work such as the bond projects, uh capper certification, trail development, nature-based programming, partnerships with camps, senior study, and other programs.

Um, and I I want to note that the upcoming proposal plan will not include an aquatics feasibility study or demand and needs assessment based on the light rail sub-areas, um, as these were unique to the current plan.

Um, there will still be five goals and associated policies that are required for the comp plan, the comprehensive plan.

Um we are re-evaluating these goals and will provide updated goals that will be included in the new companion.

Um and I'll also add that we anticipate um, although we are going to completely reevaluate them, we at this time don't anticipate there being much change in these goals.

Um the 2017 to 2022 public art plan also had five goals and implemented implementation strategies, and it was rolled out in three phases over six years.

Um, unlike the PROS plan, the public art plan is not a state required document.

Um, however, it's still good standard practice to create and maintain one as a guidance document.
