As a result of a collaborative efforts between city council and school board, we are pleased that our school liaison program will be returning this year.

Uh our department has worked with the school district for decades, and we remain committed to working together to provide a safe, healthy environment for students, staff, and visitors.

Tonight I'd like to briefly introduce our school liaison officers, Corporal Tom Lopez and Officer Michael Valdez.

Both Tom and Michael uh have extensive training to include cultural diversity, racial bias prevention, crisis intervention, principled policing, student rights, as well as many more.

Tom has been assigned to the school liaison program for two years.

Uh he grew up in South San Francisco.

He lives here with his wife and three children who also attend local schools.

Uh he has over 16 years of police experience, uh, two associate degrees, and has worked a variety of assignments in the police department.

In his spare time, uh Tom coaches South San Francisco baseball Little Leaguers, and he has always been committed to the well-being of our youth.

Tom has also been the recipient of the San Mateo County Peninsula Alliance Club Area Wide Service Award for his work done helping our homeless population.

Michael is a uh Bay Area native and he lives locally with his newlywed wife.

Uh he has three years of police experience, a bachelor's degree in criminal justice, and prior to police work, uh Michael played collegiate baseball where he held leadership roles on several teams.

He has also served as an ambassador to the junior giants, where he helped bring baseball to disadvantaged youth of all ages and backgrounds.

In a spare time, Michael has been a head coach, baseball coach and has provided youth baseball lessons for several years.
