The Spokane Valley City Council met in regular session on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 6:00 PM at City Hall. The meeting included a proclamation for the 250th anniversary of Independence Day, received a public comment on ongoing litigation, confirmed a committee appointment, and heard three administrative reports: the Safe & Healthy Spokane Task Force final report, a Transportation Improvement Board grant application, and an update on The Course cross-country venue. The meeting closed with a contentious discussion regarding a recent court decision in the City’s lawsuit against Councilmember Merkel.

We do have a proclamation for independence, excuse me, Independence Day, America's 250th anniversary. Whereas on July 4th, 2026, our nation will commemorate this semi-quincentennial anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. And whereas the President of the United States of America declared this as a year of celebration and rededication. And whereas the Declaration of Independence contains timeless principles of equality, natural rights, and government by consent.
