Let us pray.

5:56

We give thanks for those who lead by example.

6:00

The guardian angels among us, those who model the type of world we seek to live in rather than mirror the type of world we do live within.

6:10

We give thanks for those who learn from our past and refuse to retreat into the past.

6:16

Those who build our future by design and not by default.

6:21

We give thanks for those who listened with the intent to understand rather than the chance to respond.

6:29

We give thanks for those who commit to being kind and candid, who embrace rights and responsibilities, who value truth and grace, who practice empathy and accountability, who dare to forgive and yearn to be forgiven.

6:43

We give thanks for those who call people in rather than call people out.

6:48

And we give thanks for those who turn toward each other rather than turn against each other.

6:55

And today is we honor the people and principles that spark and sustain the spirit and soul of our beloved city of Syracuse.

7:05

May those called upon to serve be a blessing to each other and an answer to someone else's prayer.

7:12

This is our prayer by God's grace.

7:15

This is our commitment today, together, and always.

Yes, I have a resolution.

I will not read it all, but I will read some of it in honor of Dr.

18:22

Cole Hart.

18:23

The resolution to honor extraordinary life and legacy of Dr.

18:27

Reuben P.

18:28

Kohart and the trailblazing efforts in community health care services.

18:32

Dr.

18:33

Reban Ruben P.

18:34

Kohart has dedicated his professional life to a health care service, and in doing so, he has become a pillar of service to the city of Syracuse and its residents.

18:43

And whereas in 1977, ooh.

18:48

I was three.

18:51

In 1977, Dr.

18:52

Kohart established the Syracuse Community Health Center to create a local health care center that prioritized providing quality and compassion care to people from all walks of life, but especially to those who might otherwise be excluded from health care services.

19:08

And under the visionary leadership of Dr.

19:10

COHAR, the Syracuse Community Health Center has grown from humble beginnings to being of the forefront of community health care, employing more than 450 people serving in approximately 65,000 patients annually and has positioned itself as Anadaga County largest and most impactful organization.

19:30

And Dr.

19:31

Kohar efforts have never gone unnoticed, receiving several prestigious accolades, including the Citizen of Year Award from the Urban League of Anadaga County, the Governor's Ward of African American Distinction, and he was also awarded the Jefferson Award, which is presenting of outstanding dedication to the community service.

19:51

That was just a brief of it, but I want to honor Dr.

19:53

Kohar.

20:00

He's no longer here with us, but his heart will be, his legacy will, and we thank you him and his family for um supporting um the Syracuse community and creating what we all know as the Syracuse Community Health Center.

20:06

Thank you.

20:07

Thank you.

20:08

Please call all in favor, opposed, it's shenanigans.

20:12

Thank you.

20:14

Item 53.

20:15

Are there any?

20:19

Discussion.

20:20

Discussion.

20:21

Go ahead.

20:21

You can go first.

20:23

Well, you know, I have been on a council for five years.

20:28

And I don't remember a time when we voted to honor one of our own was a street sign as counselors.

20:38

Nader, do you remember?

20:39

No.

20:39

Right.

20:40

Right.

20:41

And there isn't a better vote for me.

20:48

All these years than this one.

20:50

I madam president, you are a mother to this community.

20:57

You are a friend.

20:59

You are a mentor to some of us that decided to be crazy and got into politics.

21:06

And we got into this space.

21:09

And you have made it normal.

21:12

You have made it all right that many of us can be here.

21:16

And be able to call ourselves political leaders.

21:20

And you have gone above and beyond for every one of us here.

21:26

And this small token, I want to thank Counselor Cardwell for bringing it up in front of us.

21:33

And just know that all of us here, we may not always say it, but we deeply, deeply appreciate what you do and your present and everything that you have done.

21:44

Just know we are watching, and we have learned a lot from you, and we are beyond grateful for your present.

21:50

Welcome back.

21:51

And this couldn't be a better welcoming back present to you.

21:54

And we appreciate you.

21:56

This is our small token and say thank you.

21:58

Thank you.

21:58

Yeah.

22:00

So yes, well, um, counselor Majoke said it like all for us.

22:09

Um, what I would love to say is as um a leader um as a representative of the first um to be the uh African American female as a president.

22:22

Um I appreciate your leadership.

22:25

I appreciate your passion.

22:27

I appreciate showing us the way.

22:30

Um I appreciate you checking us when we're right and wrong.

22:33

Um, and I am honored to be stand next to you and to call you my president.

22:39

Um, and I'm also honored that as a council body that we are recognizing someone that is so amazing and who has put a lot of work in this community, and people don't know the cost of the oil to be a part of um uh a legacy and a leadership of a community.

22:57

It's a lot, right?

22:58

And we all signed up for it, and we are so grateful and loving.

23:01

But we are we have a person that is shows us that leadership and shows us the fight, even in the midst of her own fight, she was still with us and supporting and guiding us and leading us, and then she came back and said, I'm back, and we thank you for that.

23:17

And like um Councilman Joke said, recognizing um counselor um Hudson is just one of many things that I would love to continue to see going on.

23:29

And thank you, madam president.

23:34

Okay, so please call the role.

23:39

All in favor, opposed, it's unanimous.

23:43

Thank you.

23:44

Go on to the panic commission.

23:46

So we'll go on to the panel.

23:48

Let's go.

23:50

So with that, we have concluded our meeting.

23:53

May I have a motion to adjourn?

23:54

So move second, second, let's go.

Meeting Transcript

Let us pray. We give thanks for those who lead by example. The guardian angels among us, those who model the type of world we seek to live in rather than mirror the type of world we do live within. We give thanks for those who learn from our past and refuse to retreat into the past. Those who build our future by design and not by default. We give thanks for those who listened with the intent to understand rather than the chance to respond. We give thanks for those who commit to being kind and candid, who embrace rights and responsibilities, who value truth and grace, who practice empathy and accountability, who dare to forgive and yearn to be forgiven. We give thanks for those who call people in rather than call people out. And we give thanks for those who turn toward each other rather than turn against each other. And today is we honor the people and principles that spark and sustain the spirit and soul of our beloved city of Syracuse. May those called upon to serve be a blessing to each other and an answer to someone else's prayer. This is our prayer by God's grace. This is our commitment today, together, and always. Amen.
