Syracuse Common Council Meeting: December 8, 2025
The Syracuse Common Council met on December 8, 2025, to consider a large consent calendar of items, including several held or abstained from by members. - Item 58: A grant application for a targeted cybersecurity initiative funded by the New York State Homeland Security was discussed. The grant would provide 1,500 licenses for a DNS filtering solution from Cisco called Umbrella to be deployed through the city and the SPD department. It was described as a preventative measure for hacking. Adopted unanimously.

As we gather here today with the Syracuse Common Council, along with the people of our beloved city, we pause with reverence at the opening of these proceedings. That we be reminded that we hold securely and be mindful of our shared purpose and responsibility to serve. We remember Syracuse's proud legacy as the Salt City, a place whose spirit of resilience and industry and community has helped shape our region and the nation. Lord, I pray for this council that they be reminded they are stewards of this great heritage and that they be constantly reminded of the essential role that our city plays in securing and upholding life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for everyone who calls Syracuse home. Lord, I ask that your blessings and wisdom be with them, that your guidance rests upon each and every one of them as they deliberate, deliberate and legislate and lead. Lord grant them the clarity of mind and the generosity of spirit so that every action and every decision made is for the well-being and the quality of life of all of our residents. Keep them, O God, as they carry out this sacred trust to serve with integrity and compassion and a sense of responsibility. And Lord, I pray that the council continue to have discernment to consider every voice and every perspective, ensuring that our choices are inclusive, just and impactful, and that the proceedings today honor the dignity of every person and reflect their commitment to build a more united and vibrant Syracuse. Bless us, keep us, our city, and everyone here gathered, guide our hearts and our minds so that our service brings light and lasting benefit to Syracuse.
