10:34I am delighted to recognize uh May 8th, 2026 as Child Care Providers Appreciation Day in the city of Syracuse.
10:42Um whereas child care providers continue to be a lifeline for families and communities, serving as a critical foundation for our local economy, and I would like to invite um Nicole Pouj up to receive this and to give us some remarks.
11:13Um we just want to thank everybody on behalf of the child care workforce.
11:18As we know, child care providers are a vital part of Onadoga County's infrastructure, and they support early development while allowing thousands of parents to continue to work and support our local economy.
11:28So by establishing this day, it was such a meaningful way to recognize the critical contributions that these providers play to the area.
11:35So thank you so much.
11:42I would just also like to acknowledge Councillor Caldwell and her work on children in education.
11:48Uh she was a co-sponsor initially of this, as well as now all the rest of the counselors, and we are delighted to have child care appreciation day today.

17:48Um, this is a um in offer asking for an installation of an honorary street sign at the intersection of Austin and Bellevue in honor of Charlotte Bufkowski.

18:02And her neighbor Michael, who asked for this sign is here to speak on her behalf.

18:14Um, I'll just like to read some quotes from people also who have lived on Austin Avenue.
18:21Um, one former mayor and current resident Ben Walsh.
18:24He called her the heart of the neighborhood.
18:26Uh, a memorial street naming for Charlotte would be a fitting tribute to a woman whose quiet, consistent goodness touched so many lives.
18:34It would stand as recognition that the strength of the neighborhood is not often found in its institution, but in its people.
18:42Charlotte was without question one of Austin Avenue's finest.
18:47Clarissa Robinson is a neighbor in residence, and her quote was she shared herself with others in our neighborhood, and we were better because of her.
18:56Charlotte was a caretaker.
18:57Her concern and compassion for others defined her.
19:01That defined Charlotte.
19:03A comment from her children.
19:05Our house was always a revolving door for all friends and relatives.
19:10It was an endless stream of people, which says a lot about the comfort level, and the welcome sign was always up.
19:18She was Grandma Charlotte.
19:21My wife, second mother.
19:25My son or my daughter said this would honor a woman whose everyday goodness shape the lives of those around her.
19:31It would honor not only her decades of on Austin Avenue and in Syracuse, but the spirit of generosity and community that she embodied.
19:40My oldest son said when I think what makes a person great and what type of person I hope to be remembered as Charlotte is the embodiment of the person that I aspire to be, and all she aspire to be.
20:00In closing, Charlotte and her kindness, caring and love, Carly, Charlotte, and just the way she lived her life and who she was made Austin Avenue.
20:08It made the neighborhood, it made every part of the world she touched truly a better place.
20:14And one note of the importance of her to us.
20:19After an illness this morning, my mother-in-law passed away, and I told my wife I would call Donna and ask her to read this.
20:27And my wife said no, you have to be there.

23:15I just like to take this moment to recognize that May is also mental health month.
23:22And for Syracuse, we all know that we have an increasing number of individuals who have been diagnosed with mental health and also undiagnosed with mental health.
23:35And just for us to, you know, be cognizant of individuals who are dealing with these type of uh disease.
23:46Our lot of our our residents might see some of these individuals and believe that they are individuals who use substances.
24:02And majority of the time that's not the case.
24:04And so I I'd plead that you know, we take a sympathetic tone when we are dealing with individuals who we um do not know their circumstances and what they go through on a day-to-day basis.
