1:37

She resides in Tip City with her husband Lance and their two children.

1:41

Their family spends a lot of time here in Vandalia visiting in-laws and is very excited to continue being part of Vandalia.

1:48

She brings a lot of office experiment management skills to the public works department and has already been a huge uh asset and help to getting a lot of the files there in order.

1:59

We're excited to have her be part of our public works department and to help keep Vandalia top-tier community.

2:04

So if you would please join us in celebrating and welcoming Sylvia Eldridge to our Vandalia team, and we hope we're giving it all the best in the upcoming years.

3:00

Any comments?

3:03

Step up to the podium, please.

3:36

And although I don't work for the city, I do maintain what is along Stone Quarry Road from the Access Road all the way to down to the end where it becomes Butler Township on that side.

4:14

And I was there for the groundbreaking on that.

4:30

Just as a simple equipment operator.

4:34

Within a year, he moved up to equipment operator three, as you can see.

4:41

Shortly thereafter, he became parks and development of maintenance supervisor for the parks department for the city.

4:49

At that time, he had left in 1976 from being the fire department lieutenant for Butler Township and became the assistant chief for the city of Vandalia.

5:00

At that time, he had left in 1976 from being the fire department lieutenant for Butler Township and became the assistant chief for the city of Vandalia that at that time in 1976 finally got their own fire department and went underneath.

5:12

So he was chief for there from nine uh 76 to 2001, which in that time period he went from parks and rec, he went to maintenance supervisor for the city of Vandalia, and then in seven or ninety-two, he became all the way to 2001 service department supervisor.

5:32

So he was in the hole that you guys currently call the city garage.

5:37

Um I've been in that building many times, I have to say, and man, we're gonna have a hell of an upgrade.

5:43

It's it's been welcome, I think, to every citizen that knows what the environment is in that old garage, which it's poor.

5:52

I mean, you're talking 40s.

5:54

Um I don't know what it was prior.

5:56

Somebody else may have that information.

5:58

I don't know what it was, but it's uh a welcome addition to the city to be able to have that.

6:03

And I only ask that you give the name to the building to somebody that worked in what their old service was in that building over there and put their name on the new building that gave his entire life to what working life to what was the city of Vandalia.

6:20

He gave it all.

6:21

I mean, you talk about working all day, possibly getting called out at night for the roads, and then you still end up working for the fire department for any major fire that you have because you can't expect the regular chief to respond to every one of those.

6:35

This is a guy that he put the city ahead of his family by all means.

6:40

And I'm only asking, just put his name on the building and give it somebody that's gonna really deserve what there is to go along with that.

6:48

There's nothing for him to gain by it, but for his family, his sisters, and his children, they would appreciate it.

6:56

And I think the rest of the city in understanding what he did for the city would be glad to be able to have his name and proud to have it honored right there.

7:04

Does anybody have any questions?

7:06

Anything at all with what I've explained.

7:09

And I think if you talk to anybody that's been with the city longer than what the initial time period where we are right now, 26 years into the new millennium, um, if they go back, they remember what he was to the city.

7:25

Kurt, we have a the city has a process for naming of facilities, correct?
