The Windsor Town Council held a regular meeting on July 1, 2024, at town hall. The meeting included a proclamation, public comments, reports from the Board of Education and Town Manager, and several unanimous votes on grants, public hearings, ARPA fund allocations, and personnel changes. All votes passed 9-0.
Good evening and welcome to our town council meeting of July first, twenty twenty four. All councillors. Well, we are missing one counselor, I believe he is in route. Okay. Um so outside of counselor Smith, all counselors are accounted for. Deputy Mayor Clays, we'll turn it over to you for items two and three. As we approach, I'm gonna do my um reading. As we approach the Fourth of July holiday commemorating the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, may we always celebrate our democracy and freedom. May we also use this occasion as a time of reflection to continue our work in the support and expansion of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for all. Please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. Pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States. And two questions. Under God. Liberty. Thank you, Deputy Mayor Clace. And we all love the technology. There's always a delay, but we got it done today. We got it done. Thank you so much for that. We'll move to item number four on our agenda. And this evening we do have a proclamation proclaiming July 2024 as parks and recreations month. So the proclamation reads, whereas parks and recreation promotes health and wellness, improving the physical and mental health of people who live near parks, and whereas parks and recreation promotes time spent in nature, which positively impacts mental health by increasing cognitive performance and well-being and alleviating illness, such as depression, attention deficit disorders, and Alzheimer's. And whereas parks and recreation encourages physical activities by providing space for popular sports, hiking trails, swimming pools, and many other activities designated to promote active lifestyles. And whereas Parks and Recreation is a leading provider of health, excuse me, of healthy meals, nutrition services, and education. And whereas parks and recreations programming and education activities, such as out-of-school time programming, youth sports, and environmental education are critical to the childhood development, and whereas parks and recreation increase a community's economic prosperity through tourism and the attraction and retention of businesses, and whereas parks and recreation is fundamental to the environmental well-being of our community. Now, therefore, be it proclaimed by the mayor in the Windsor Town Council that the month of July is excuse me, is designated as Parks and Recreation Month in Windsor. This year's theme, Where you Belong, emphasizes the profound impact parks and recreation plays in our lives, and we encourage all residents to celebrate by participating in their choice of pleasurable recreation park and leisure activities with families, friends, and neighbors. We have a wide variety of activities scheduled, special events, such as pool events, senior activities, Northwest Park, a lot of nature activities, bus trips to the Harford Yard goats. So a wide variety of trip offerings, special events and programs. I will mention, yes, you come out and enjoy our pools there, especially on this beautiful um weather that we've been having. And not just our pools, it's um summer league basketball is happening, so you can take in a game on a Friday evening at one of our rec centers. So there's a lot happening with recreation services.
